2012 Mosel Rieslings presented by Anne Krebiehl MW
2012 Mosel Rieslings presented by Anne Krebiehl MW
In our first tasting of 2026, we will taste nine 2012 Rieslings from Germany’s Mosel region. The Mosel Valley is renowned as one of the – if not the – greatest terroirs for growing Riesling in the world. Its extremely steep, slate-based vineyards line the twists and turns of Mosel River, providing the perfect conditions to ripen the Riesling grape, creating wines of great purity with racy acidity. The wines we will taste range from bone dry Grosses Gewächs to residually sweet wines with sufficient ripeness to be labelled Goldkapsel. In January 2024, we presented the 2011 Rieslings from the Mosel, and the 2012s are showing similarly great promise, with Joel B. Payne of Vinous remarking that “at the top level, the 2012s are the finer, more balanced wines”. The 2012 wines we will taste include wines from some of the most renowned producers in the Mosel, including JJ Prüm, Schloss Lieser and von Schubert, the latter in the Ruwer Valley.
The wines have been drawn from the Society’s cellar and were purchased en primeur over a decade ago by the Society’s committee with a great deal of foresight, offering the current membership access to aged wines now rarely accessible on the open market.
We are lucky to be joined again by Anne Krebiehl MW who is the author of the most comprehensive English language guide to German wine and one of the UK’s foremost authorities on the wines of the Mosel.
We will taste the following wines:
