The Champagne House of Billecart-Salmon
The Champagne House of Billecart-Salmon
What better way to start the Christmas season than with a champagne tasting? The Society is lucky to have secured a tasting direct from the cellars of Billecart-Salmon including an opportunity to sample the incredibly special Cuvée Clos Saint-Hilaire 2009 - about which critic Matthew Jukes recently said “In a staggeringly short period, Le Clos Saint-Hilaire has become the most sought-after ultra-rare Blanc de Noirs on earth”.
Situated in the charming village of Mareuil-sur-Aӱ, this family-owned Champagne House has been independent for over 200 years. Since its formation in 1818 by Nicolas François Billecart and Elisabeth Salmon, every member of the Billecart family has been committed to the immutable oath: ‘Give priority to quality, strive for excellence’. Reflecting this commitment, in 1999, the cuvee Nicolas Francois Billecart 1959, was chosen as "Champagne of the Millennium" by a committee of experts at a blind tasting involving 150 vintages from the most illustrious champagne producers.
This tasting provides an unrivalled opportunity to explore an extensive range of the House's champagne. We will be led through our tasting by Mathieu Roland-Billecart, representing the 7th generation of the family. We will taste the following cuvées:
Billecart-Salmon Brut Réserve Non-Vintage
Billecart-Salmon Brut Rosé Non-Vintage
Billecart-Salmon Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Non-Vintage
Billecart-Salmon Brut Sous Bois Non-Vintage
Cuvée Nicolas François Billecart 2012
Cuvée Louis Salmon 2012
Cuvée Elisabeth Salmon 2012
Cuvée Clos Saint-Hilaire 2009
