Malbec and Beyond – Icons and innovations of Argentina presented by Amanda Barnes MW
Malbec and Beyond – Icons and innovations of Argentina presented by Amanda Barnes MW
Argentina’s wine story stretches from the sun-drenched, high-altitude terraces of the Andes to the bracing, wind-swept vineyards of Patagonia. While Malbec remains the country’s emblem, Argentina today produces a stunning diversity of wines, from perfumed Torrontés to elegant white blends, finely structured Cabernet Franc, and age-worthy red blends that rival the world’s best.
This tasting showcases the remarkable breadth and quality of Argentina’s finest regions and grape varieties. From historic vineyards in the far north to avant-garde projects in Patagonia, and from Argentina’s most celebrated blends to its latest rediscovered grapes, this is a rare opportunity to experience the full spectrum of one of the world’s most dynamic wine countries in a single evening.
To complete the experience, the red wines will be served with Argentine empanadas, the country’s most beloved pairing.
We are privileged to welcome to the Society for the first time Amanda Barnes MW, who will guide us through the tasting. Amanda is the leading authority on Argentinian and South American wine. Based in Mendoza, she has spent more than a decade travelling extensively across the continent’s vineyards and is the author of The South America Wine Guide, the definitive reference work on the region.
The eight wines to be tasted are a carefully chosen selection designed to illustrate the country’s range, from crisp whites to Argentina’s most iconic reds:
Bodega Colomé Torrontés 2024
Susana Balbo Wines ‘Signature’ White Blend, Uco Valley, 2022
